Learn to Curl 1

Never curled before? Start here.

The Learn to Curl League is designed specifically for brand-new curlers who want to try the sport in a fun, social environment. No previous experience is required, and you don’t need to know the rules or have your own equipment before getting started.

Over the course of the league, we’ll introduce you to the basics of curling while giving you plenty of opportunity to actually play the game. You’ll learn alongside other new curlers, build your confidence each week, and discover what makes curling such a great way to spend the winter.

Learn While You Play

You don’t need weeks of lessons before you can enjoy a game of curling. Our Learn to Curl League combines instruction with actual gameplay, helping you understand the sport as you experience it.

You’ll be introduced to the fundamentals, including:

  • How to safely move on the ice
  • Delivering a curling stone
  • Sweeping
  • Scoring and basic rules
  • Communication and teamwork
  • Basic strategy and shot selection

As the league progresses, instruction becomes part of the game, giving you a chance to ask questions, try different positions, and put what you’ve learned into practice.

Everything You Need to Get Started

One of the best things about trying curling is that you don’t need to invest in a bunch of equipment before finding out if you enjoy it.

We provide the curling equipment you’ll need. Simply bring a clean pair of running shoes and comfortable clothing that allows you to move. Dressing in layers is recommended.

And don’t worry if you’ve never stepped onto curling ice before — that’s exactly who this league is for.

More Than a Winter Sport

Curling is a great way to stay active during the winter, but the game has always been about more than what happens on the ice.

You’ll spend your league playing alongside other people who are learning too, making it easy to meet new people and become part of the St. Marys curling community. And after the game, there’s always an opportunity to stick around, socialize, and get to know your fellow curlers.

Try It. Learn It. See Where It Takes You.

By the end of the league, you’ll have a better understanding of the game, plenty of rocks under your belt, and the confidence to decide what comes next.

Maybe you’ll join a social league, try doubles, sign up for Rock League — or simply come back for another season.

You don’t need to be a curler to start. You just need to be willing to give it a try.
